Description

This ancient leaf is from a Koran that had great use and finely lost its binding. Most of the leaves from this book could not be salvages and those rescued are in good to moderate condition. It comes from the period of the Safavid Sultans of Persia. The scribe, Muhammad ibn Mihammad Hasan el-Tabrizi wrote this Koran in 1559 employing seventeen lines to the page in the script known as Naskhi (153 x 90 mm.). The work is of a high standard, probably made for an important personage because it is gold sprayd. There are more than usual numbers of marginal roundels in gold, marking verse counts. Chapter heading are in white Thuluth script on gold panels. Verso: seventeen lines of fine black Naskhi script. Due to the age of this leaf we consider the condition to be Fine [F].
