Description

This is a leaf of incunabula from Vitae XII Caesarum or lives of the Twelve Caesars by Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus commonly known as Suetonius (c. 69 - after 122). He was a Roman historian belonging to the equestrian order who wrote during the early Imperial era of the Roman Empire. The Twelve Caesars is a set of biographies of twelve successive Roman rulers, from Julius Caesar to Domitian, and is considered his most important surviving work. This edition was printed by Benedictus Hectoris on April 5, 1493 in the Spanish city of Bologna. The small folio leaf measures 303 x 219 mm. in totality & contains 41-lines of Roman type (1:107R & 2:82R) surrounded by 56-lines of commentary by Philippus Beroaldus.
