Description:

A Leaf from a medieval manuscript Bible: Paris, France, mid 13th century, In Latin, on Vellum (197x134mm.). There are fifty-five lines of double column text in microscopic-miniscule Gothic script. There are book headings, chapter numbers, one large "six-line historiated initial "O" in blue and pink inks encapsulating "Ecclesia holding a chalice" encapsulated by heavily embossed gold on a rectangular ground of blue. Ecclesiasticus Chapter 1 - 2 (Ecclesiasticus is the longest of the deuterocannonical books of the Holy Writ, and the last of the Sapiential writings in the Vulgate, of the Old Testament). Verso: There are fifty-five lines of double column text in microscopic-miniscule Gothic script with one versal initial "I" in blue ink with a lovely dragon. Chapter 19 ending the Book of Wisdom. There is a highly illuminated "initial "M"; in blue and pink inks on a rectangular ground of liquid gold with floral designs in embossed gold. This begins the prologue to Ecclesiasticus. Condition of this leaf is fine [F].
