Description

This is a leaf of early printing from a Biblia Latin Printed at Lyons by Joannis Crispini in 1539. This is a close copy of Jacques and Jean Mareschal's Lyons Bibles of 1525. It is also closely related to Jacob Sacon's Bibles. Crispini, originally of the French/ Netherlands province of Artois printed for a time in Lyons before fleeing religious persecution and opening a press in Geneva in 1548. He died of the plague in 1572. The leaf measures 340 x 240 mm. in totality and contains the first Canon Table of Eusebius in red and black. The Verso: contains Canon Table number 2. (Fairfax Murray 36, Not in Darlow & Moule) This leaf contains minor staining and wear around the edges.
