Description:

A leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours, Use of Utrecht, in Dutch, On vellum, Cologne, third quarter of the 15th Century (155 x 117 mm.) written space (93 x 70 mm.). A highly illuminated Book of Hours, thirteen lines ruled in brown ink. Written in dark brown ink in a strong gothic liturgical hand. The illuminated leaves from this book are characteristic of Cologne especially the work of the Windesheim Cannons of St. Michael in Cologne. These leaves are at least from the same workshop and perhaps even from the same artists. There is a four-line initial "O" in highly burnished embossed gold on colored grounds enclosing floral, rubrics are in red and marginal sprays of green and burnished gold petals. Verso: Thirteen lines of gothic script with alternating capitals in blue and red ink. Condition: Some minor wear gold otherwise in fine condition [F].
