Description:

A leaf from a Breviary, French, Paris, circa 1230-1250, in Latin, on vellum (125 x 87 mm.). There are twenty lines of miniscule transitional Textura Gothic script with one four-line capital initial "E" in embossed gold on a rectangular ground of pink and blue inks infilled with white tendrils as well as six other initials starting each sentence all in embossed gold. Line one begins: (Isaiah 12: 3-6), line nine begins: (Isaiah 38: 10-12). Verso: twenty lines of miniscule transitional Textura Gothic script with eight initials starting each sentence alternating in embossed gold and blue ink. Line four begins: (Isaiah 38: 14-18). Condition of this leaf is considered fine [F] due to its age but does have a diagonal cropping at the top that apparently occurred through the complete book.
