Description:

This is a leaf from a Breviary, "Breviarium ad usum ordinis S. Benedicti", circa 1380, France, Paris, in Latin, on vellum 152 x 107 mm. approximately (5.98 x 4.21 in.). The leaf consists of thirty-two lines of double column monastic gothic script in brown ink within a written space of 124 x 80 mm. approximately (4.88 x 3.15 in.). Rubrics are in red. Versal initials alternate in red and blue ink with alternating grounds of blue and red pen work. Verso: thirty-two lines of gothic script with Rubrics are in red and contemporary annotation. Condition of this leaf is less than fine [F-] due to cockling at the bottom margin yet very interesting and rare.
