Description

Double hemisphere map of the World, with personifications of the four continents in the corners and Atlas in the middle holding the world, showing the knowledge of the geography in the late 17th century: Australia with undefined lines is joined with the South Pole, Korea is an island, Northwest coast of America is marked with Quivira and Anian, California is shown correctly as a peninsula. Shirley (586) quotes two versions of this map, printed from two different plates: the map pictured in his publication carries lettering 'Oceanus Atlanticus' which is this map.
