Description:

This is an original illuminated antiphonal leaf from Italy (possibly from Northern Italy Padua), late fifteenth century to early sixteenth century, on vellum, in Latin (628 x 433 mm. or approximately 25 x 17 inches). The initial "V" consists of typical Italian floral coloring encapsulating a flowery assemblage on rectangular ground of embossed gold and is considered large (150 x 180 mm. or approximately 6 x 7 inches). The Feast of All Saints [November 1] Revelation 7, At Lauds: "Vidi turban magnum, quam dinumerare nemo poterat ex ominibus gentibus et tribubus...". There are five staves of four lines each (Gregorian chant) in red with interlinear notations in black, rubrics are in red; text is written in a liturgical gothic script with one minor capital initial "E" in red ink. Verso: four staves of four lines each with rubric in red, page number 134. Condition of this leaf is Fine [F] with some thumbing on the turning corner and a natural vellum hole in the bottom margin.
