Description

This is a rare leaf of incunabula from the Opera Medicinalia which is a collection of medical remedies for a wide range of disorders. The book was not only in use in practically every European pharmacy but in addition became the basis of the later official pharmacopoeias. Written by Johannes Mesue who is more correctly known as Yuhanna ibn Masawayh, an Iranian physician (777-857). It was printed by Peregrinus de Pasqualibus, Bononiensis, for Dionysius Bertochus on December 21, 1484 at Venice. The small folio leaf measures 295 x 210 and contains 46-lines of gothic type (7 & 9) surrounded by 71-lines of commentary. There are versal indents, guide letters and 3-line versal letters at the beginning of each section. Verso: contains 58-lines of the same type & layout.
