This is a leaf from a very fine and imposing manuscript fragment from an edition of Sa’adi’s works including the Bustan (fruit Garden) and the Gulistan (Rose Garden) compiled as the known Kulliyat dating from c.1815. There are seventeen lines some in double columns while others only in single column nasta’liq black script and of a fine hand; borders are in gold with florals on triangular grounds are typical of Kashmira work of the late 18th and early 19th century, Chapter Headers on a gold background and commentary on the sides and Book Heading have the most exquisite polychrome designs. Such a beautiful did not survive the ravages of the times. Verso: seventeen lines some in double columns while others only in single column naskhi black script. Sheikh Sa’adi (c1180-c1292) is acknowledged as the greatest moral teacher in Persia in the Islamic Sufi tradition. Condition of this leaf is Fine [F].
