Artist Biography:

The Pauquet Brothers: In the mid nineteenth century the Paris publishing house of Pauquet Freres created a number of fine costume portfolios containing original steel or wood engravings. La Folie du Jour: Directoire is from their greatest series of images entitled, Modes et Costumes Historiques. (Fashions and Historical Costumes). The entire set was published in one edition only, around 1870. Containing a total of ninety-six plates, each hand-colored engraving bears the title, name of the original designer and the period of time within French history along the lower margin.
